Data & Methodology
Travel Weather Fairy separates historical climate from live forecast data. For most cities, historical climate and recent-year calendars are frozen static copies derived from Open-Meteo historical data. Munich, Kyoto, Nagoya and the V28.0 source-specific destinations use the exceptions described below. Current weather and the 7-day forecast use MET Norway Locationforecast through our server-side proxy.

MET Norway does not provide precipitation probability consistently for all global forecast locations, so we do not invent a percentage. Forecast cards show the model’s expected precipitation amount (mm). Requests go through a Cloudflare Worker proxy with an identifying User-Agent and caching, rather than directly from the visitor’s browser.
Travel Weather Score
The Travel Weather Score is a simple planning aid based on 10-year average high temperature, monthly rainfall and rainy-day frequency. It is not an official safety, tourism or weather-warning rating.
Clear-sky share is not used in the score or monthly headline metrics. A percentage derived only from daily weather codes is not equivalent to sunshine duration or the share of clear hours, so it has been removed to avoid misleading interpretation.
Events, seasons and limitations
Season labels summarize typical travel-weather patterns. Event and busy-period cards prioritize official tourism, government or event sources when available; dates and opening hours can change, so travelers should recheck the linked official source before departure. Weather values use representative city coordinates and may differ at a specific hotel, beach, mountain or station.
Licensing and updates
Historical weather data are retained with their original attribution. Forecast data are provided by MET Norway under CC BY 4.0. Forecast responses are cached according to the provider’s service guidance.

Kyoto and Nagoya exception: 2016–2025 monthly mean high/low temperature and monthly precipitation use official Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) station statistics. Because this release does not include the full ten years of daily JMA observations, rainy-day frequency uses the JMA 1991–2020 normal for days with at least 1 mm, and the daily recent-3-year calendar is not shown for Kyoto or Nagoya. Current weather and 7-day forecasts continue to use MET Norway.
Munich exception: 2016–2025 monthly climate uses LMU Munich-Maxvorstadt city-station tables (monthly mean maximum/minimum temperature, monthly rain total, and measurable-rain days >0.1 mm). The recent-3-year section compares 2023–2025 monthly mean high/low temperature and monthly precipitation; a daily recent-3-year calendar is not shown for Munich in this release. Current weather and 7-day forecasts continue to use MET Norway.
V28.0 new-destination sources: Hanoi and Boracay use frozen 2016–2025 Open-Meteo/ERA5-derived aggregates. Hoi An uses the nearby Da Nang-area frozen 2016–2025 grid as a disclosed representative. Kobe and Yufuin use official JMA 1991–2020 climatological normals; Beppu uses nearby JMA Oita-station 1991–2020 normals as a disclosed representative. The six additions do not copy or fabricate recent-3-year daily calendars.
